New Zealand to South East Asia in two years September 10, 2007

In just two years, technology company eBUS (www.ebus.co.nz), a resident of the ICE Accelerator from the ICEHOUSE, has gone from start-up to acceptance into the South East Asia Beachheads Programme.eBUS has developed a TV Commercial digital delivery and media asset management solution for the TV Commercial production industry that enables all participants from production and post-production to broadcaster to access the same files, which can repeatedly be sent backwards and forwards through the chain.

It’s the brainchild of Carmine Masiello who set up the company in October 2005. eBUS has quickly achieved 50 percent market share in New Zealand and is the only solution going to all New Zealand TV Channels. It recently opened an office in Singapore, a hub from which to expand into South East Asia; and has already secured contracts with major Singaporean post production firms and broadcasters. To grow and expand his business successfully,
Mr Masiello
has accessed the expert advice and networks of firstly the ICEHOUSE, a business growth centre in Auckland, and now the Beachheads programme in South East Asia.“We believe that both the ICEHOUSE and Beachheads provide the kind of advice and service that you can’t buy at any price,” he says.
While Beachhead advisory board chairman Greg Cross says it’s quite rare for a relatively early stage company to be accepted into the programme, there have been a number of companies that have met the criteria and they share many of the same qualities as eBUS.
“The first quality is the commitment and experience of the people involved in the company. Secondly they have a very clearly defined target market and an ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of how that market works.
“In addition eBUS has been very successful in the New Zealand market, and they’ve also taken a very disciplined approach to developing their business; that’s one of the benefits of the incubator programme.” Andrew Hamilton, CEO of the ICEHOUSE says Carmine Masiello has been outstanding in taking his business forward.
“What the ICEHOUSE has done is partner with him to grow the business and see the international opportunities, through support, feedback and access to networks.
“The Beachhead will build on that and will be a great assistance to eBUS in entering and developing the South East Asian market. It’s a network game in Asia; it’s very complex and relationships are fundamental to success. The Beachhead will accelerate the firm’s growth which is pretty exciting.
E-Bus also participated in the Dubai Beachhead as an ‘advantage member’ - a customised service that allows participants to commission specific research to identify market potential, followed by a market visit and access to Beachhead hot desk services in the market. Partly as a result of their participation in this programme, Singapore was decided as the ‘launch pad’ for this company.
“Carmine has recognised that building an international company takes lots of energy and effort,” says Andrew Hamilton. It’s better to have multiple hands helping – that’s the value proposition of both the Beachheads programme and the ICEHOUSE.”

eBUS
has successfully raised over $1 million capital from two groups out of the Capital. After six months of
focused fundraising, Carmine Masiello, Chief Executive of the company who has developed eBUS’ management system for the TV production industry, says: “I have enjoyed working with The ICEHOUSE and I hope we will have the opportunity to keep doing it. I would never have tried the fast growth model without the support of The ICEHOUSE and its mentoring activity.”
